It’s pollen season! My wash techniques still suck despite promising OPPO wash pros to do better :’(

I just use our wash bays at work. It’s a huge tub of soapy water, wheel cleaner, glove sponge thing, and a water hose. I do have a pretty good shammy tho. I need to commit to learning how to properly wash a car instead of saying I will.

Look at all that yellow tree jizz.

Welp, way better than before. Sorry for my 3 year old potato pic at night. I will wash EL_Zapatito tomorrow after work.

Haha! I had to look up “chignon”. Now that you mention it, it does look better than Silver Smoke Metallic or Pregnant Thundercloud Gunmetal ever could.

Cheers fella. I’ve not even had chance to clean her yet as I’ve been busy doing other peoples cars. Hopefully I will spend a little time with her tomorrow.

Svend, just picked up a Griots Garage DA 6" polisher, white pad, and some optimum poli seal. Gonna do a one step correction on all my cars. Got any tips for me? I’m just very nervous I’ll mess something up.

I don't have a garage, would it be stupid of me to do it outside? Should I just go to my friends place?

The DA’S 6 is a fantastic starter (it’s a common DA renamed under several different brand names). DA’s are very forgiving. I would reconsider a one step correction.

Prior to starting make sure the car is as clean as you can make it. Use tar remover, fallout remover and/or clay to remove as much contamination as possible. Then tape (3M blue low tack water resistant tape ‘3434' (199x50m will do perfectly)) off plastics and rubbers (they are a real pain to remove polish residue from), also tape door handles, etc...

First off I’d start with a medium polish with a soft pad and work up (different paints react differently from soft easily damaged and fixed paint up to very hard paint). Think ‘first do no harm’, don’t go all out balls to the wall but start with the gentlest method and work up.

Once you’ve got the correction you want you will then need to refine it (again using a medium polish this time on a soft pad).

Any particular reason I shouldn't do the one step polish? None of my cars have very bad swirls. I've seen some good results with the poli seal on forums.

The thing is with cars paint it can be like a persons skin. If the paint is soft and you go in with a too aggressive combination you will take off more than if you used the same combination on hard paint or not at all.

Polish and pad combinations are important. Doing a test patch will give you an idea as to what your playing with. The rest of the paint will be in a same fashion (careful around ‘smart’ repairs of where a respray has been carried out as the paint will behave differently.

How's the interior quality? I've heard that there's a lot of minor squeaks and rattles and weak trim pieces. Is this true for your car?

I work for Volvo and have seen thousands of XC90. Most are fine, some are beat up but usually because they have kids and they destroy the interiors. Mine was a 1 owner car and it seems like nobody ever rally sat in the back seats. The leather is clean and everything is nice and clean. I never really checked for and noises since I’m always listening to my THRASH \m/ but I don’t thing there is anything out of the normal. Gutting out the interior and making it into a Rally Moose would be rad though :]
